On Grand Cayman we are very fortunate to have a number of options for CPR/AED training. Usually you also have a choice between a shorter, 4-hour course focusing on life-threatening scenarios that covers CPR, rescue breaths, use of an AED and choking, or the longer 6 to 7-hour course that covers CPR/AED and First Aid. The longer course will generally include basic first aid training for situations including broken bones, burns, bleeding etc.
The type of course you choose will depend on why you are doing it. Some people are first-time parents encouraged to take the course in preparation for parenthood, others might do it because a family member’s life depends on it and some people are doing it as a work requirement.
All of the courses listed below provide 2-year certification on successful completion. The various associations get together every few years and amend and update the courses so it is important to renew your certification to stay current and ensure that your methods are in-line with current guidelines. In addition to the places listed below, many dive operators also offer the Emergency First Response (EFR) courses that meet the CPR and First Aid requirements for the PADI Rescue Diver course.
